The METRO project is part of the DFG funded Cluster of Excellence "Sustainable and Energy Efficient Aviation“ (SE²A). As an interdisciplinary research center of Technische Universität Braunschweig, the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and Leibniz Universität Hannover as well as Braunschweig University of Art (HBK) the objective of SE²A is to research novel technologies for sustainable and environmentally friendly air transport systems.
For the successful development of complex product systems, the exchange of data, information and knowledge is essential, but often time-consuming and labor-intensive. Digitalization leads to a larger amount and availability of data. Systems are also increasingly digitally linked to their environment. In the SE²A Cluster of Excellence, suitable methods and tools are therefore required to support the development of complex product systems through effective research data management using the example of aircraft.
The project has two main objectives. On the one hand, a methodological framework to support, analyse and evaluate effective data management structures will be developed. Methods and tools from the research area System of Systems Engineering (SoSE) will be examined in detail to identify emergent behavior. Secondly, a software will be developed and implemented on the basis of the methodological framework, which will effectively support the data exchange of the SE²A research units. The software will be designed in close cooperation with the future users to meet the special requirements of the cluster. The results of the project can be evaluated on the basis of the user behaviour during the later application. Subsequently, impulses from the SE²A cluster will be formulated for the research data management structures of the TU Braunschweig, whereby the results should lead to a sustainable improvement of the research activities
