In the module "Joining Techniques for Lightweight Construction", students acquire the theoretical principles and methodological knowledge for the design and execution of joints for lightweight construction.
With the acquired knowledge the students are able to design constructions according to the joining technology in an optimal way to exploit the full lightweight construction potential of the component. Furthermore, the students can enumerate quality assurance methods for the established joining technologies and explain the function and implementation in a production line. By attending the module, students have understood the high potential of adhesive bonds for lightweight construction and have a large knowledge base with which they can develop bonding solutions for joining. This includes the analytical characterization of adhesives for the correct design of the bonding process with regard to adhesive thickness, the part to be joined, handling and application technology. Further exercises enable the students to calculate bonded joints and to design load- and stress-oriented bonded joints.
