With regard
to production of goods and services in various branches, constant and global change
driver such as stagnating supply chains, rapidly changing customer requirements
as well as work-force-shortage require the proactive design of sustainable and resilient
operation. In order to maintain and expand value-creation in such an environment,
manufacturing companies are increasingly relying on information technologies (IT)
with the goal to maximize the use of the company’s resources and employee
qualifications. Such IT solutions, that have become key factors for
cost-efficient operation, can range between full automation of processes and assistance
to workers. Whereas the technical automation of production systems can achieve
throughput times and quality levels that far exceed those of human labor, the aforementioned
challenges additionally require the deployment of human-like skills in problem-solving,
dexterity and cognitive abilities contributing to its’ irreplaceable characteristics
of flexibility, adaptability and reliability. In this regard, cognitive-digital agents shall encompass human-like capabilities fulfilling human-like roles based on scalable technology platforms. Recent technology releases in the field of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) enable software systems to understand and generate human language allowing an intuitive and flexible interaction with the underlaying data.
