Contents

Soil and Rock Mechanics

Soil exploration, strength and deformation behaviour, laboratory and field tests, stability tests, material laws, bedding and stiffness modulus methods, shallow foundations, construction of piles, load-bearing behaviour of piles, design and calculation of piles, restrained piles / lateral loads on piles, pile test loads, soil improvement, soil consolidation, legal issues in geotechnics, damage cases in geotechnics, microstructure models, stress-strain behaviour, hydraulic permeability, rock mechanical investigations

Soil Mechanical Practical Course

Soil investigation, laboratory and field tests for classification, hydraulic permeability, strength and deformation behaviour depending on the soil type.

Objectives

After successfully completing the module, students will be able to use their understanding of theoretical and experimental soil and rock mechanics to carry out the planning and execution of construction work in soil and rock. Students will be able to conduct and analyse laboratory and field tests with recognition of the practical report.
