Contents

Numerical Methods in Geomechanics

Principle of the finite element method in structural mechanics, different element types, isoparametric elements, material models and their characteristic values (linear elasticity, Mohr-Coulomb, Hardening Soil Model), discretisation and boundary conditions, simulation of structural states, results and validation, example analyses with Plaxis 2D

Geotechnical Metrology

Displacement sensors, force sensors, functionality of sensors, non-destructive soil exploration, completed projects, development of a measurement campaign

Objectives

After successfully completing this module, students will be able to use their understanding of numerical analyses and measurements in geotechnical engineering to plan and execute ground engineering works.
