Contents

Foundation and Rock Engineering

Stability of embankments / dams considering water flow, cofferdams and sea-going vessel quays, partial safety concept, foundations of dam walls, special earth pressure problems, problems of deep excavations, excavation pit support, underpinning, underpasses, pipe jacking, microtunnelling, static calculation of pipelines, reinforced earth structures, engineering geological and rock mechanical investigations, rock mechanics, risk considerations in geotechnics

Soil Dynamics

Fundamentals of dynamics, description of dynamic processes in soil dynamics, frequency responses, scaling functions, modelling in soil dynamics, dynamically loaded foundations, machine foundations, transformation factors, vibration isolation, reduction of vibrations, design and construction information, metrological investigations

Objectives

After successfully completing this module, students will be able to use their understanding of foundation and rock engineering as well as soil dynamics to realise the planning and execution of construction work in the ground.
