Our offers for secondary level I are suitable to support the acquisition of competences according to the Lower Saxony core curricula for biology teaching at Haupt- and Realschulen, Gymnasien and Gesamtschulen as well as Förderschulen. They promote and deepen the understanding of the basic concepts of biology.
At the same time, process-related competencies are promoted in all programmes: Observing, comparing and analysing, investigating and experimenting, and using models. In the programmes, the pupils work with magnifying glasses and microscopes or make biological factual drawings. Describing phenomena with familiar and new technical terms is practised as well as evaluating biological questions on the basis of investigations and selected sources of information.
The aspects of variability and adaptability can be deepened, for example, in the adaptation of succulent plants to dry extreme locations. The special morphology of succulent plants offers starting points with regard to structure and function. The morphological properties and trapping strategies of carnivorous plants are characteristics of adaptation to nutrient-poor sites. The importance of light, minerals and water for the plants becomes particularly clear in the work with the "life artists in the tropics".
Similarities and differences of organisms as well as the aspects of reproduction and development become vivid in the programmes "Blossom - pure temptation" and "Of flying artists and "stowaways". During the "Tree Rally" in the Botanical Garden, different tree species are explored with the help of identification cards and aids.
The origin and use of spice plants from all over the world and the history of the spice trade offer botanical, geographical and historical points of contact in the programme "Spices - The World Tastes Like Spices". Of course, sensory experiences also play a major role. The programme "Everything Banana - Tropical Crops in Daily Life" promotes appreciation for an intact nature and helps to foster understanding for sustainable development.
