The availability and access to a vast amount of ever-growing open and crowd-sourced spatial and human centered data allows us as architects to gain fundamental new perspectives and understanding of space and spatial conditions. Computational tools such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are valuable tools which allows us to read patterns that emerge from various spatial configurations. It becomes a powerful instrument to generate insights for architects and planners alike.
Supported by the Barcelona-based office 300.000km/s the seminar introduces you to tools for data collection, processing and analysis and how to make these productive for your design process. We apply concepts of big, open and crowd-sourced data and their focused visualization of such as a tool to gain insights and drivers for your design.
URBAN ANALYTICS+ key features:
- develop analytical skills
- enhance the visualization of information
- prepare meaningful analysis for supporting the design first stages
- work with big data (filtering, ordering and aggregating)
- introductory GIS course
- design and deliver intelligent maps
- transforming knowledge into human-centric and evidence-based design
