THe two parallel wave flumes are 1 and 2 meters wide respectively. This experimental facility is used to conduct research studies that can be investigated using a predominantly two-dimensional approach. Typical examples of the experimental studies carried out are in the research areas of wave run-up and overflow at coastal defence structures, the transverse coastal transport of sediment, the ecohydraulics of salt marshes or wave attenuation by oyster reefs in the North Sea. Studies on offshore wind energy (e.g. concepts of floating wind turbines, influence of marine vegetation) and on the progression of dam breaches across coastal topologies and their loads on building structures are also being investigated.
