Johannes Büchner studied civil engineering at TU Braunschweig, is working as a research associate at the Braunschweig Pavement Engineering Centre (ISBS) of TU Braunschweig since 2016 and coordinates the research activity in the area of bituminous binders. He gained his doctoral degree at TU Braunschweig on the topic “Asphalt Mastic Testing in the Dynamic Shear Rheometer” in 2021. His research focusses mainly on testing bituminous materials with the dynamic shear rheometer (DSR). He is currently working on performance tests (creep tests, fatigue tests, relaxation tests) of asphalt binder and other bituminous materials for roofing and sealants, binder-fast-characterization-test (BTSV) and 4 mm geometry. These topics are also included in different publications and conference contributions. He is member of different boards in the German Road and Transportation Research Association (FGSV), the German Institute for Standardization (DIN) and the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) and thereby contributing to the development of German and European Standards regarding bituminous binders. Johannes Büchner is head of the bitumen comptence center (BKZ) in the Innovationsgesellschaft TU Braunschweig mbH, where he is offering DSR training courses since 2023 as well as consultancy and material analysis of bituminous materials. Since the summer semester of 2024, he has been a lecturer at Leibnitz University Hanover for the subject “Road construction and road maintenance”.
