Stephan Büchler studied computer science at the Technische Universität of Braunschweig. During his studies he already gained experience in testing technologies at the ISBS and after graduating in 1995 he started working as a research assistant at the institute. In addition to processing research projects, he works for technical equipment service and was temporarily system administrator. He received his doctorate in 2010 in the field of the behavior of asphalt at low temperatures. In 2014 he became deputy head of the RAP-Stra laboratory and head of the laboratory in 2017. Since 2015 he heads the ISBS laboratory and since 2016 he has been working as a volunteer examiner in the IHK's examination committee. Through his many years of activity, he covers a wide range of topics in the field of asphalt research, from aggregates and bitumen, through additives, the development and testing of asphalts mixtures and recycling. In addition to holding courses for many years, since 2015 he has been teaching three lectures in the areas of planning, practical exercises and rheological models. He is active in various committees of the Forschungsgesellschaft für Straßen- und Verkehrswesen (FGSV) and organizes seminars within the framework of the Berufsverbands der Straßenbau- und Verkehrsingenieure in Niedersachsen (VSVI).
