The project “Intercultural Citizenship Education through Teacher Education for the Mediation of Picturebooks” (ICETEMP) is a collaborative initiative comprising seven European universities. The project’s primary objective is to enhance awareness and implementation of intercultural citizenship education in foreign language teaching and learning across Europe.

This overall objective will be achieved by promoting the use of dialogic pedagogies for I&CE through picturebook mediation by teacher educators in pre-service EFL teacher education, with the implicit aim of supporting intercultural citizenship education with primary and lower-secondary foreign language learners. To achieve this, the project will, among other measures, create guidelines for higher education institutions, compile a collection of best practice examples and films, develop an adaptable teacher training module, and produce a handbook for teacher trainers, along with various other efforts.

The project "Nurturing Global Citizens through Sustainable Education and Future Learning" (“Nurturing Global Citizens”) will develop an English-language module package comprising 30 ECTS.

Content wise, the interdisciplinary module package will focus on (education for) sustainable development and integrate international elements. It will be firmly integrated into the curriculum and will be available to students pursuing a two-subject Bachelor’s degree (with and without a teacher training option), a single-subject Bachelor’s degree in Educational Science, and international students participating in their exchange program. It will also be accessible to students from other faculties through the POOL program.

The module package will thus address the cross-cutting themes of sustainability and internationalization through interconnected components, linking to the key research areas of the university: mobility, engineering for health, and the city of the future. It aims to equip students with skills that foster the development of a global citizen mindset.
