EIT Urban Mobile Charging

Project

The availability of charging infrastructure is an important challenge for both cities and users of electric vehicles. 33 million electric car owners in Europe will need an efficient charging infrastructure by 2030. Our goal is to propose commercial solutions for new innovative charging stations that fit into the urban environment.

UMC is developing the "NIMBEE" service for fast, mobile, renewable and on-demand charging of electric vehicles as a project to ensure that drivers have access to charging when needed and without excessive use of urban space and infrastructure.

Goals

The project is developing the Charging-as-a-Service service, which brings a battery-powered charger to where the vehicle is parked. The focus is on user-centered development of the service, which at the same time enables easy introduction in cities and ideal integration into the infrastructure. Convenient mobile charging contributes significantly to accelerating the decarbonization of mobility and transport and thus to improving the quality of life in cities. The service will be demonstrated and piloted in the cities of Riga and Braunschweig. For the demonstration in Braunschweig, the platform will be partially automated by NFF in order to lay the next building block for a fully autonomous charging service.
