Topology optimization (TO) is a well-known and powerful numerical tool, and nowadays is widely being utilized for various engineering applications such as: structural design, heat and mass transfer or fluid-structure interaction problems. The ability to create/modify the topology of a design, makes TO superior to sizing and shape optimization, when it comes to an ultimate design optimization. Our research primarily aims to further discover the TO potentials in tackling challenging engineering tasks. This includes developing and applying TO methods for solids, fluid and Multiphysics systems.
Current research includes developing novel density-based TO methods for fluid system including heat transfer based upon pseudo-spectral and finite element methods, with a critical insight into the numerical accuracy, as well as computational performance. Besides, we are developing accurate and efficient sensitivity analysis techniques, as a crucial step of gradient-based optimization techniques.
TO is also a powerful method for design of bionic structures. We are actively working on developing methods for topology optimization of advanced bionic structures for aerospace and automotive applications.
