Doctoral Candidate (m/f/d) in the field of drone-based aerosol and meteorological research

Starting from 1 January 2025, the Institute of Flight Guidance is looking for a Doctoral Candidate (m/f/d) in the field of drone-based aerosol and meteorological research

 

The position is to be filled on a fixed-term basis for a period of 3 years. The successful applicant will be given the opportunity to pursue a doctorate.

 

The position is available in the work group “Airborne Meteorology and Measurement Techniques” at the Institute of Flight Guidance Institute. The work group has the focus on atmospheric research, in particular concerning aerosol and air pollution, wind energy, and feedback processes in polar areas, making use of different flying platforms (drones, aircraft, helicopter-borne sonde).

Your tasks

  • You will carry out research in the area of sensor and drone development, preparation, participation and evaluation of drone measurements for aerosol and meteorological research.
  • You will apply for and work on research projects.
  • You will publish research findings and participate in national and international conferences.
  • You will be involved in teaching at the University (preparation and implementation of courses as well as supervision of students’ work).

Your Qualifications

  • You have a degree (Master’s or equivalent) in the field of engineering, meteorology, physics or related
  • You have very good knowledge of the German and English language.
  • You have a strong background in meteorology
  • You have experience in the preparation of and participation in drone measurement campaigns
  • You have experience in BVLOS flight operations
  • You have experience in composite material and RC aircraft modelling
  • You have experience in microcontroller programming
  • You are flexible, can perform under pressure and work well in a team.
  • You are aiming for a doctorate.
