The lecture gives an insight into the history of science with a special emphasis on the life sciences and on pharmacy. Based on a range of exemplary case studies from different epochs (antiquity to the early 20th century), the dynamics, functions and specific forms of knowledge will be discussed. We will try to understand better what the changing historical and epistemological circumstances, consequences and prerogatives for today‘s modern natural sciences are. How did the relationship between science, politics and society play out in different regions / epochs.
The context of the live / digitally recorded lectures, which are available both in German and in English language, will be provided by a script. For those students who don‘t read German, basic reading texts in English are available. The learning platform Stud.IP. will provide interactive elements like digital round tours, forum Q&A, and additional links.
