The lecture “Modelling of human diseases in vertebrates” mediates in a first part the knowledge about actual molecular and cell biological techniques that are commonly used in biomedical research laboratories to model human diseases in vertebrates like the zebrafish and the mouse. Following the classification of human diseases and a comparative description of the genomes and the physiological parameters between the human and the model organisms, many transgenic techniques are explained in comprehensive presentations. The second part of the lecture focuses on healthy and pathological developmental processes of tissues and organs. A constructive elaboration of the advantages of animal models for diagnostic and therapeutic applications is presented on basis of current research highlights.
