Master Thesis

Course content

The Master's thesis is an urban design task of high complexity in which in-depth design skills are applied: Analysis of programme and context, development of thematic and spatial concepts at different scales, generation and verification of a design-defining idea. In-depth elaboration of the design, taking into account the conceptual, programmatic and contextual parameters, application and integration of analogue and digital techniques in the architectural conception and representation. The topics and contents are defined by the responsible lecturers or by the students in consultation with the lecturers.

The aim is to independently transform a highly complex issue into a holistic urban design in a given amount of time or to discuss it in a free work (theoretical work). Graduates are able to communicate the design or the work comprehensively and clearly in a form customary for the subject and its practice, and to present and discuss it publicly in front of an audience. Graduates are able to integrate creative-aesthetic, cultural-social and technical-scientific aspects into the design or work. Graduates are able to enrich and condense the design or work through knowledge of knowledge areas, instruments, methods, procedures and techniques relevant to architecture. You are able to creatively and experimentally search for innovative approaches and optimise the design or work through critical reflection and your own power of judgement.
