Intended learning outcome:
The students have developed an understanding of macromolecules and master the essential possibili-ties for the synthesis of polymers theoretically and practically. The students know the significance of the special structure of polymers in solids (as semi-crystalline or amorphous materials). They know selected technical products and processes and are able to assess and discuss the special physical-chemical properties of polymers and their solutions. The students know basic methods of polymer analysis and are able to assess and discuss their areas of application.
Lab course:
kinetics of polycondensation (typical step growth polymerisation); use of transfer agents for molecular weight adjustment in a radical polymerisation, gel permeation chromatography of the products and calculation of the transfer agent constant; molecular weights of radical polymerisation in the bulk and in emulsion polymerisation; determination of copolymerisation parameters; thermal prop-erties of polymers.
