Introduction to Polymer Chemistry

Course content

Introduction to Macromolecular Chemistry: The mechanism and kinetics of step growth and chain growth polymerizations are disccussed with the polycondensation and the radical polymerization as examples. Furthermore, copolymerization, block- and graft polymerization, polymeranalogeous reactions, as well as the mechanism of stereospecific and ring opening polymerisations are dealtwith. Physico chemical methods for determination of the molecular weight (osmosis, light scattering, GPC, viscosimetry) are introduced. The properties of the solid state are explained on the basis of the terms glass transition and partial crystalinity.
