Who are you and what is your research topic?
My name is Bekir Yildiz and I am researcher at the Institute of Flight Guidance (TU BS).
Which research question are you working on?
I am working on a project entitled “SE²A Advanced ATS Simulation (AdAS)”. The focus in this research project lies on the development of a significantly advanced simulation platform for the air transportation system. The developed simulator will be used to assess holistically the impact of novel aircraft types, introduced into the current air traffic system, and therefore evaluating the overall environmental footprint.
What makes this topic special/exciting for you?
As an aviation enthusiast, it gives me great pleasure to work on an aviation management project that applies fundamental research to meet the demands of a sustainable and energy-efficient aviation.
Why is your topic relevant for future aviation?
The enhanced ATS simulation environment AdAS will support the assessment by means of different criteria and metrics applied on a future air transportation system. The AdAS outcome will also enable the partners to identify bottlenecks and critical paths in the system. With these findings research requirements for future research needs can be derived.
What is special about participating in the interdisciplinary research network SE²A?
In order to solve grand challenges embracing different disciplines, scientists of various domains must work together. For me, it is a great opportunity to be engaged with experts from other fields. Furthermore, it is a pleasure for me to contribute to the scientific progress within the SE²A project, that deals with the challenge of making future air traffic efficient and sustainable.
