Summer Schools Abroad

Please start your planning in good time, ideally at least six months before the start of the Summer School. You can also find information on the websites of the respective host university.

Please pay particular attention to the information and deadlines provided by the respective host university, and take into account any potential funding issues as well as any required language proficiency proofs. Additionally, check whether the credits earned can be recognised within your degree programme. Further information on these points can be found below.

Please check with your host university whether a language proficiency certificate is required. Typically, a certificate in the language of instruction is requested. The language of instruction may differ from the national language, as many universities offer Summer Schools in English.

Within the European Union, you are covered by your European Health Insurance Card. However, not all medical services are fully covered by this card. Therefore, we recommend that you take out additional travel health insurance for the duration of your stay.

In countries outside of Europe, the European Health Insurance Card is not valid, and you will need to take out additional travel health insurance in any case. Please check with your health insurance provider for more information on this.

The required documents vary depending on the host university and summer school. Please check the website of the respective university.

There are different sources for funding opportunities and scholarships for summer schools:

• Scholarship database of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) (only in German)
• Scholarships for talented students
• Information from TU Braunschweig on financial support for stays abroad

In general, you will have to plan and finance your journey yourself. Some host universities offer support, e.g. in the form of shuttle transfers from the airport.

Some host universities also offer accommodation in their own halls of residence for summer school participants. Meals are not usually included. Please refer to the websites of the respective host universities for more information.
