Academic achievements and personal motivation are key factors in the awarding of scholarships for studying abroad, but social and political engagement is also considered during the selection process. It is important to apply for scholarships well in advance; in many cases, you should begin preparing your application at least a year and a half before your planned stay abroad.
DAAD (GERMAN ACADEMIC EXCHANGE SERVICE)
The DAAD is the primary provider of scholarships for studying abroad, awarding them primarily based on personal suitability and academic performance. A diverse range of scholarships is available, including annual awards for study visits across all subject areas, as well as many special scholarships for specific fields or target countries.
To enhance the chances of success for your DAAD application, it is ideal to have strong academic achievements. If your academic record is not as exceptional, you can offset this by meticulously and coherently preparing your study project. Additionally, social and socio-political commitment play important roles in the application process. Don’t be discouraged by pessimistic predictions regarding the success rate of DAAD applications; what truly matters is the quality of your submission, your personal motivation, and your preparation!
We offer individual counselling and specialised DAAD application workshops to support you. Information on all DAAD scholarship programmes can be found in the:

Scholarships for gifted students
The major German organisations that promote gifted students provide funding for stays abroad as part of a comprehensive study grant. This means you are essentially applying for a scholarship that covers your entire degree programme abroad. This funding is not limited to highly gifted students; in addition to academic qualifications, significant emphasis is placed on social, cultural, religious, political, or trade union engagement.
