Lower Saxony Centre for Climate Research

Blühende Kastanie vor dem Altgebäude der TU Braunschweig

The Lower Saxony Centre for Climate Research (Zentrum Klimaforschung Niedersachsen, ZKfN) at TU Braunschweig is poised to become the central point of contact for all stakeholders working on climate research in Lower Saxony. The Centre consists of an Administrative Office and several topic-specific Future Labs (Zukunftslabore).

For several decades now, scientists have been monitoring and researching human-induced climate change and its effects. To give this research a decisive boost in the coming years, topic-specific Future Labs will provide a platform for developing interdisciplinary solutions for a safe and just climate future. Interdisciplinary consortia of researchers and industry partners based in Lower Saxony can apply for funding under the framework of these Future Labs.

The ZKfN will pool all Future Lab activities and facilitate their strategic linkage. The network of stakeholders from science, economics and society that are assembled under the Centre’s umbrella will focus on research across multiple disciplines and locations. We specifically encourage scientists from the various universities in Lower Saxony to come together and cooperate in these Future Labs.

The ZKfN’s backbone is its Administrative Office, which, along with the Centre, is located at TU Braunschweig. Its staff are the first point of contact for all ZKfN stakeholders and provide support for the Future Labs’ operations and management. In conjunction with Future Lab partners, they will make the outcome of this research available to the general public.

Workshop: The university of the future - TU Braunschweig in the spirit of sustainable development

The sustainability discourse has met with a broad reception in the education and higher education sector and has also prompted TU Braunschweig to intensify its efforts to become a sustainable and climate-neutral university. But what does sustainability mean in practice? How do you organise negotiation processes and how do you deal with conflicting goals that go hand in hand with different ideas of a sustainable university?

The ZKfN cordially invites students and employees of TU Braunschweig to work out their ideas of a sustainable TU Braunschweig of the future together on 12 June from 10.00 - 11.30 a.m. in a workshop as part of the TUmorrow Days, free of real limitations (e.g. financially). The basis for this is the TU Braunschweig's sustainability strategy. Neighbouring discourses in the context of transformation processes can also be included here, for example digitalisation and AI, the university as an institution that promotes democracy or global citizenship.

Date: 12 June 2024

Time: 10.00 - 11.30 a.m.

Location: University square

Registration and further information on the TUmorrow Days can be found here (in German).
