Project description:
The recycling of used lithium ion batteries is a key technology for the future of the electrification efforts. Biggest issues are the dilution of important elements like nickel, cobalt and manganese with elements from the battery case or internal electronics. Some of this elements have positive effects on the battery performance and do not need to be removed completely. To estimate the influence of the typical found impurities this project synthesizes nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) cathode materials from primary materials. The synthesis with impurity elements is investigated, to calculate the influence of this elements on the overall battery performance.
