Summary of the project:
BaSiS is a BMWi-sponsored project focused on safety research of lithium-ion batteries. In the context of electromobility, new batteries with aimed enhanced energy density are on the spotlight and it is therefore required that their safety is likewise guaranteed. The early safety assessment of battery materials using predictive simulations is designed to avoid overengineering and targets the reduction of manufacturing costs. Within this framework, the main aspect of this project is the development of a coupled physicochemical DEM-FEM simulation for the evaluation of novel battery materials and their validation via small-scale experiments at the cell level.
