Do you have questions about course booking, placement tests or the recognition of language certificates? We have summarized the most frequently asked questions and answers for you in our FAQs.
Registration and cancellation of language courses / placement tests
The courses are published on the website approx. 3-4 weeks before the start of the semester under "Course Overview" in the respective language. Registration for all foreign language courses normally begins 2 weeks before the start of the lecture period, for all German semester programme courses 1 week before the start of the lecture period. It ends at the end of the second week of the lecture period.
Please note: for some workshops or the compact courses in the semester breaks, other registration dates apply. Please check on the website under "Course offer" under the respective course/workshop when registration starts.
Unfortunately, it is not possible to register outside the official registration period. Please make sure that you inform yourself about the courses and register in due time.
Please note that some workshops or compact courses have different registration periods. Registration and deregistration for these is only possible within these registration periods.
There will be no placement tests held at the Language Center in the summer semester 2025. This applies to all languages. If you do not know what language level you currently have, you have the option of using online placement tests from publishers. Please remember that your learning progress depends largely on choosing the right language level for you.
External persons will not be able to book language courses in the summer semester 2025 due to the switch to Stud.IP. This regulation only applies to the summer semester 2025.
Employees of TU Braunschweig generally have to pay for the German semester programme. The fee can be found in the schedule of fees [in German]. For employees who book their language course via the central Training Programme for employees of TU Braunschweig, the offer is free of charge. External persons will not be able to book language courses in the summer semester 2025 due to the switch to Stud.IP.
Please always contact the course instructor directly and inform him/her of your absence from the course. This is especially important at the start of a course, as you will automatically be deleted from the course if you are not present in the first lesson. Please also note that you will not receive a course certificate if you have less than 75% attendance in the course.
You can register for the language proficiency tests on AURA on the homepage. Click on the button "Register for the language proficiency certificate". There you can also see the next dates of the language certificate tests. After registering, you will receive a confirmation; one day before the test, you will receive an email with a link to a Moodle room and detailed instructions.
Please first write an email to the respective Head of the language programme. They will arrange a test date with you, for which you can then register in AURA on the “Home” page by clicking on the button "Register for the language proficiency certificate".
At present, language proficiency tests are not offered in Arabic, Italian, Japanese, Polish, Portuguese, Swedish and Turkish.
However, if you have successfully completed a level (e.g. A1, A2, etc.) with a language course at the Language Centre in one of the languages mentioned above, you can request a language certificate via our online portal AURA.
After completing a language course, you can download your course certificate on Aura. Simply go to "My courses..." in AURA and click on the relevant course; then you will see the download button.
There is no general answer to this question. Please check with your faculty which requirements your (compulsory or elective) language course must fulfill and then register for the respective course.
No, we do not report your credit points to your faculty/examination office. You have to download/print out your performance certificate yourself in AURA and submit it to your faculty/examination office.
