In order to meet the challenges of climate change, the use of a functionally integrated multi-material mix of lightweight construction is becoming particularly promising. On one hand, new materials with specially adapted properties are used in such a way that the component can be designed to optimize the load path. On the other hand, different material systems are combined to achieve functionalization, for example by stiffening thin metal sheets with reinforcing ribs made of fibre-reinforced plastic, thus making best use of the lightweight construction potential.
In-Mold Assembly (IMA) by means of injection molding is a process for producing connections of identical and different materials in one step within one mold. Through a targeted further development of laser pretreatment, the process limits can be extended and the process can be enabled for innovative lightweight construction concepts.
Known requirements of the faculty for the submission of a student research project, bachelor or master thesis. In addition to the fun of experimenting, a committed, independent, careful and conscientious approach is required for the success of the activity. You should also be willing to carry out part of the experiments in the Open Hybrid Lab Factory in Wolfsburg.
