The mechanical properties of battery electrodes are of central importance for the service life and performance of the battery cells in which they are used. The complex interaction of the components (active material, conductive additive, binder) in the electrode coating is decisive for this. The experimental determination of these mechanical properties represents a challenge for which a U-shape bending test is being considered.
The focus of this work is therefore the determination of the mechanical properties, in particular the stiffness, of electrode coatings by means of a bending test. An initial test setup and procedure have already been developed for this purpose. The aim of the thesis is to consider factors influencing the measurement results and to evaluate the significance of the measurement method. These influencing factors can be, for example, the composition of the electrode coating, the coating thickness or the specimen extraction.
Scope of the work
The student work can be carried out as part of a student research project, Bachelor's or Master's thesis.
