Project Description:
The improvement of electrochemical energy storage technologies regarding safety and performance is an essential step for the success of electrically driven mobility. Particularly the solid-state batteries (SSB) where a solid-state electrolyte is replacing the liquid electrolyte of conventional lithium ion batteries are considered as promising candidates. This leads to an increased safety as well as potentially higher energy density due to the possible application of lithium metal anodes.
SSBs are still in an early technological state where materials and cell concepts are mainly established at the laboratory scale. Techniques for the manufacturing on an industrial scale still have to be evaluated and defined. The EProFest projects should fill this gap by identifying the most promising material combinations, cell concepts and processing routes for a scalable SSB production. Finally, recommendations for the industry should be derived in terms of technological, economical and ecological aspects.
