History
The institute originates from the "Chair of Biochemistry and Biotechnology", so named in August 21th, 1972. First lab space was located in the GBF (National Research Centre for Biotechnology, Braunschweig, now: Helmholtz Centre for Infection Reserach). In 1980, the Institute partly moved to the main campus at the TU Braunschweig. Its current labs are located in the Biocentre and the BRICS. Substantial modernization of the Biotechnology Department in 2004/5, and move of the Bioinformatics to the newly built BRICS in 2016 yielded laboratories ready for the challenges of the 21st century.
Our teaching (seminars, lectures and practical courses) is integral part of the Bachelor/Master programs in Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry/Chemical Biology, Chemistry, Bioprocess Engineering (integrated in Mechanical Engineering studies) and Biochemical Engineering, as well as the graduate academy "GradTUBS".
