Kamp Westerbork Travelling Exhibition “Picturing the Unimaginable” at TUBS Campus Nord
From 1st of April to 15th of July, the library at TUBS Campus Nord will host a travelling exhibition that centers on the graphic novel “Picturing the Unimaginable. Ten comic authors. Ten stories about the Holocaust and other Nazi crimes” and the ten artists who contributed to and/or designed individual chapters of it.
The project itself is a collaboration initiated by the Camp Westerbork Memorial Centre and involves the Kazerne Dossin, the Neuengamme Concentration Camp Memorial, the NIOD Institute for War, Holocaust and Genocide Studies, and Scratch Books.
The exhibition shows the stories of the graphic novel. It explores the origin of the graphic novel and its development and contextualises the different stories, giving visitors insights into the creative development process and artists’ motivations when designing their chapters.
Alongside this exhibition, TUBS visiting researcher Dr. Tatia Gruenbaum, together with the department of Teaching English as a Foreign Language, will offer a newly designed innovative hybrid course for a mixed-discipline student cohort that draws on this graphic novel. The course will be offered in the summer term of 2025 and explores the contribution visual Holocaust children and young adults' literature can make to supporting global citizenship education and promoting the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC).

Kamp Westerbork Wanderausstellung „Picturing the Unimaginable“ auf dem TUBS Campus Nord
Vom 1. April bis zum 15. Juli ist eine Wanderausstellung zu dem Graphic Novel-Projekt „Picturing the Unimaginable. Ten comic authors. Ten stories about the Holocaust and other Nazi crimes“ an der TU Braunschweig (Bibliothek Campus Nord) zu Gast. Die Ausstellung zeigt die zehn Comic-Autor*innen, die an dem Projekt mitgewirkt und/oder einzelne Kapitel gestaltet haben.
Das Projekt wurde von der Gedenkstätte Kamp Westerbork initiiert und ist in Zusammenarbeit mit der Kazerne Dossin, der KZ-Gedenkstätte Neuengamme, dem NIOD Institute for War, Holocaust and Genocide Studies und dem Verlag Scratch Books entstanden.
Die Ausstellung zeigt die Geschichten der Graphic Novel. Sie befasst sich mit dem Ursprung und der Entstehung des Graphic Novel-Projektes, kontextualisiert die verschiedenen Geschichten und gibt den Besuchenden Einblicke in den kreativen Prozess und die Motivation der Autor*innen für die Gestaltung ihrer Kapitel.
Parallel zu der Ausstellung wird ein innovatives, hybrides Seminar angeboten, das von der TUBS Gastwissenschaftlerin Dr. Tatia Gruenbaum in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Lehr- und Fachgebiet Didaktik des Institutes für Anglistik und Amerikanistik entwickelt wurde und unter anderem auf der Graphic Novel sowie der Ausstellung basiert. Das englischsprachige Seminar wird im Sommersemester 2025 angeboten. Es befasst sich mit dem Beitrag, den visuelle Kinder- und Jugendliteratur über den Holocaust im Hinblick auf Global Citizenship Education und zur Förderung der UN-Kinderrechtskonvention (UN-KRK) leisten kann.
