Who are you and what is your research topic?
My name is Andrea Franco, and my topic under the research project B1.3 is the development of a fast non-empiric prediction model to evaluate the excess noise due to the integration of propulsors with respect to aircraft fuselage and wings.
Which research question are you working on?
My research question is how to formulate a non-empiric prediction model (therefore based only on theoretical assumptions) to be able to evaluate the noise resulting from different propulsors configurations.
This model would then allow to answer the following questions:
- How much excess noise is radiated from such configurations?
- Which configuration allows the minimum amount of noise radiation?
What makes this topic special/exciting for you?
Through the different simulations that I perform, I have the opportunity to investigate complex aeroacoustic phenomena which are relevant for future sustainability guidelines.
Why is your topic relevant for future aviation?
The sustainability requirements needed for future aviation will be demanding a considerable reduction in aircraft noise radiation, to comply with the public environmental regulations.
My project aims to provide a prediction tool to aid engineers in designing such low-noise aircrafts.
What is special about participating in the interdisciplinary research network SE²A?
The opportunity of cooperating with fellow researchers coming from different research areas, obtaining a more comprehensive point of view regarding sustainable aviation.
This is enriched by the wide variety of nationalities and backgrounds of the people involved, making it appealing for a junior researcher like me.
