The Kinder-Uni Braunschweig ("Children's University") is an event for children aged 8 to 12. In exciting and entertaining lectures, young students can discover the world of science and learn about a variety of fascinating topics. The lectures are free of charge and offer the opportunity to meet real researchers and ask them your questions.
The most recent Kinder-Uni lecture took place on 16 November 2024 in the Audimax at TU Braunschweig. For parents and accompanying guests, the lecture was streamed live in a nearby lecture hall.
The next Kinder-Uni 2025 will take place during the winter semester 2025 with three new lectures. Registration will open at the end of August or beginning of September 2025.
Until then, you can listen to our podcast series "Clever nachgefragt!" where children ask TU Braunschweig researchers clever and curious questions. Join in, puzzle along, and learn something new.
All details about registration and the schedule for Kinder-Uni 2025 will be published on this page before the registration period begins.
We all know the feeling of stress - but did you know that trees can also suffer from it? In fact, only around 20% of the trees in our forests are still healthy. In this exciting episode, we talk to Prof. Dr. Robert Hänsch from the Institute of Plant Biology at the Technical University of Braunschweig. He explains how trees experience stress, why protecting our forests is so important and what we can do to help our trees recover.
With: Tim, Milan, Melisa, Milan-Noel and Prof. Dr. Robert Hänsch, Institute of Plant Biology
This episode is about art - but not just about beautiful paintings or sculptures. We talk about art that can inspire us to think about environmental protection. We have Prof. Folke Köbberling from the Institute for Architecture-Related Art at TU Braunschweig as our guest. She tells us how art and environmental protection are connected and how artists can incorporate nature into their works to set an example for the environment.
With: Elif, Espen, Salih and Prof. Folke Köbberling, Institute for Architecture-Related Art
What do you actually do with old batteries when they are flat? Just throw them in the bin? Better not! Batteries contain valuable materials that can be reused. In this episode, Prof. Dr. Arno Kwade, Vice President for Transfer and Innovation at TU Braunschweig, explains why it is so important to recycle batteries, how exactly this works and how we can all help. This is how we protect the environment and save raw materials!
With: David, Helen, Yussef, Cem, Mateo and Prof. Dr. Arno Kwade, Vice President for Transfer and Innovation
You've probably already been to the sea and watched the waves. Did you know that our coasts are constantly changing? Sometimes parts of the coast crumble into the water and in other places the sand is simply washed away. Climate change is making things even more difficult. That's why it's important to protect the coasts! In this episode, Dr. Clemens Krautwald from the Leichtweiß Institute of Hydraulic Engineering at TU Braunschweig explains how coastal protection works and why it is so important for us all.
With: Marlon, Viyan, Milan-Noel and Dr. Clemens Krautwald, Leichtweiß-Institute of Hydraulic Engineering
Have you ever wondered what happens when garbage is simply thrown into nature? Or why it is so important to separate waste? In this episode, Prof. Dr. Andreas Haarstrick from the Leichtweiß Institute for Hydraulic Engineering at TU Braunschweig explains how waste pollutes our environment and why even tiny pieces, such as microplastics, are dangerous for animals and plants. Together we will find out what we can all do to keep nature clean and healthy!
With: Denny, Aaliyah, Mariell, Finn-Luca and Prof. Dr. Andreas Haarstrick, Leichtweiß-Institute for Hydraulic Engineering
Have you ever wondered why it is often much hotter in the city in summer than in the countryside? And what we can do to make the weather and air in the city more pleasant? Prof. Dr. Stephan Weber, urban climate researcher at the TU Braunschweig, explains to us why cities heat up so much and what it could look like in Braunschweig in 100 years' time if we don't change anything. In this episode, you'll find out what we can do today to make our cities cooler and greener!
With: Tim, Milan, Melisa, Atakan and Prof. Dr. Stephan Weber, Institute of Geoecology
