On this page you will find everything you need to know about studying for a Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences.
The core of the programme consists of sociology, political science and economics.
While sociology focuses on the problem of social order in modern society, political science is primarily concerned with power-related decisions and how they come about. The economics courses provide you with a basic understanding of how markets work and macroeconomic variables such as inflation or unemployment. In addition, in the area of methods of empirical social research, you will acquire the necessary tools to interpret statistics and carry out your own studies. Courses in communication and counseling as well as courses in rhetoric provide important key qualifications. You will gain intercultural and international qualifications through English-language courses, language courses and excursions abroad. You also have the opportunity to complete part of your studies at a partner university abroad.
In the first year of study, the focus is on imparting the relevant basic and methodological knowledge in the subjects of sociology, political science and economics, which is deepened from the second year onwards through specific social science topics.
By choosing additional interdisciplinary modules from the fields of economics, communication and media studies, psychology and philosophy, you can customize your studies and thus optimally prepare yourself for your desired career. You will gain your first practical experience as part of the compulsory internship. The courses in the professionalization area (rhetoric, presentation, academic writing) and subject-specific English courses round off your education.
