The political challenge is to plan for the long term and think ahead at all levels to prepare communities, cities and transport systems for the mobility of the future. This requires innovation. A regular exchange between politics, science and business promotes this innovative power.
As Technische Universität Braunschweig, we offer you a wide range of expertise in future mobility in general and autonomous and connected driving in particular.
Autonomous and connected mobility is no longer science fiction, but is already a reality in the scientific world: from vehicles that automatically form an emergency lane, to local public transport that can manage without a driver, to industrial warehouses that are operated entirely by autonomous vehicles. The reality of autonomous driving is getting closer, thanks in part to research and spin-offs from our university.
When it comes to autonomous mobility, TU Braunschweig is working on AI, sensor technology, safety and risk communication, new drive technologies and changes in mobility law and the world of work, among other things.

Mobility is a fundamental need of our society. But how can we manage the transition to new forms of mobility in the face of growing demographic, economic and, above all, climatic challenges?
At Technische Universität Braunschweig, we are rethinking mobility - from cars to aerospace technology to rail transport. Our vision is a future in which everyone drives and flies with fewer emissions.
With four research centres, the second largest research airport in Europe and a cluster of excellence, mobility is one of the four main areas of research at TU Braunschweig.

TU Braunschweig is one of the nine leading technical universities in Germany (TU9). We combine the expertise of different disciplines to find sustainable solutions for the global challenges of today and tomorrow. We don't just focus on technical innovation and scientific research - we think in terms of people and take social responsibility.
"Mobility is changing. The social, environmental and economic challenges we face require new concepts. We are talking about artificial intelligence as well as highly automated and autonomous driving. With the NFF, we have one of the most modern centres for mobility research in Niedersachsen."
Falko Mohrs, Niedersachsen’s minister for science and culture
Future talk "AI, drive me home" at TU Braunschweig
"At TU Braunschweig, we are proud to be at the forefront of national and international mobility research. Together with our partner institutions, we are putting Braunschweig on the world map of mobility innovations. We attach great importance to a continuous dialogue with society and industry."
Prof. Dr. Angela Ittel, president of TU Braunschweig, at the Mobility Days in Braunschweig in June 2023.
"For the mobility transition to be successful, we need to think about all the building blocks together - efficient and reliable public transport is crucial. The challenges facing public transport in rural areas cannot be solved without autonomous driving. A day like today shows once again that the automotive heart of the future beats in Niedersachsen."
Olaf Lies, Niedersachsen's Minister of Economic Affairs, during his visit to the NFF in August 2023.
"It was a fantastic experience that showed me once again that Braunschweig as a research centre is working on the development of innovative and future-oriented technologies."
Dr. Thorsten Kornblum, mayor of Braunschweig, after the test drive with TU Braunschweig's autonomous TEASY3 in September 2022.

The Automotive Research Centre Niedersachsen (NFF) is one of the most modern mobility research centres at a German university. The centre brings together the work of 44 professors from the fields of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, civil engineering and life sciences. More than 80 senior engineers and over 1,000 research associates are working here on concepts for sustainable mobility to meet the social, ecological and economic demands of the future.
Automated and connected driving is one of the five research areas at the NFF. The NFF is researching autonomous vehicles, automated driving functions and driver assistance systems that will ensure individual mobility in the cities of the 21st century.
The NFF already has a number of self-built demonstrator vehicles with highly automated and autonomous driving functions. These vehicles are equipped with high-precision 360° sensors that determine the vehicle's position in a complex environment. With the research car park, the A2/A39 test areas, the inner city area and the planned expansion of the research campus around Braunschweig, an excellent infrastructure is available as a real laboratory. In the NFF Technical Centre, the experimental test facilities are complemented by simulators and the "Virtual Mobility Lab".
The RAION (Research vehicle for Automated and Intelligent driving in ON-street applications) is the latest member of a family of autonomous driving research demonstrators being developed at Technische Universität Braunschweig. As the name of the vehicle suggests, researchers are using this model to get out of the laboratory and test the use of new autonomous vehicle concepts under real-life conditions. The vehicle is a demonstrator of an autonomous public transport shuttle. The first real-life application is planned for 2024 at the Braunschweig Research Airport.
If you are a member of the press or a policymaker and have questions about our research into automated driving and future mobility, talk directly to our scientists and help us bring these promising topics to the public.
