The class Sewage Sludge Treatment and Disposal is offered in the winter term as part of the module Wastewater and Sewage Sludge Treatment Processes. This module is a compulsory module for Spezialised Studies in Sanitary Engineering (Master Program Civil Engineering), for Spezialised Studies in Supply and Disposal Management (Master Program Environ. Engineering) and a Supplementary Module for Master Studies in Geoecology/Environmental Sciences. It presents all general important fundamental knowledge for further studies of sanitary and environmental engineering.
The course Sludge Treatment and Disposal reviews sludge production and characteristics (physical, chemical, biological) of sewage sludge. Special emphasis is placed on various types of sludge stabilisation (aerobic/anaerobic), biogas utilization and sludge disinfection. Additionally, sludge disposal options are discussed taking into consideration legal regulations and costs.
