The overal objective of the joint BMBF research project Expoval is a full-scale validation of research results obtained in the previous joint BMBF research project Sludge Treatment and Reuse Considering Different Climates and Varying Other Conditions. Treatment concepts which appear to be especially promising in regard to treatment results and economic efficiency such as anaerobic sludge treatment, solar drying and disinfection of solar-dried sludges are to be investigated on a full-scale basis at wastewater treatment plants in various countries under varying climatic conditions. Wastewater treatment plants in Turkey, Colombia, Poland and Germany have been selected for on-site investigations. The focus of the research is on reuse-oriented sludge management. Industrial partners for realizing this research program are OSWALD SCHULZE Umwelttechnik GmbH (digesters) and HUBER SE (solar drying and disinfection).
