This lab offers the opportunity to understand and experiment with the fundamentals of radio transmissions by applying them theoretically and practically. In this lab, the particiaps will at first have a look at the structure and functionalities of a circuit board designed at the IfN. This board allows data transmission on the carrier frequencies of 433 MHz and 868 MHz. The heart of it is a 8-bit microcontroller. Its software will be extended and modified in the course of the lab (language C++). On the other side, there is a GUI-application for the PC (language C#) that can transmit and receive data via the radio interface.
Within this lab, relations between modulation, data rates, error protection and transmission range will be covered.
The group size is 2 to 3 students. Programming knowledge in a language such as C, C++, C# or Java are recommended. The course is designed to work closely with the hardware and is aimed at students of the courses of study electrical engineering (Master) and information systems engineering (Master).
