Project introduction:

The project aims are to investigate the influence of various impurities from the recycling process on the electrochemical performance of lithium-ion cells and especially their cathodes. For this purpose, unique electrochemical impedance spectroscopy methods are further developed in the area of measurement technology and data evaluation and eventually combined into a comprehensive investigation methodology. Besides, the impedance methods will be extended by comparative electrochemical techniques such as cyclic voltammetry.

Specific objectives:

(Further) development of electrochemical measurement techniques with a focus on impedance spectroscopic methods
Determination of tolerance limits of impurities
Traceability of measurement results to the extent of impurities
Evaluation of standard analytics along the recycling line for the quality assurance of rebuilt cells

Expected outcome:

Comprehension of impurity-property relationships
Standardized application of different coupled electrochemical methods
