Project introduction:
This project investigates the development of fibre optical sensors for status monitoring, such as state of charge and temperature, on lithium‑ion batteries by using special fiber Bragg gratings (FBG) inscribed into optical glass fibers. With this approach, especially mechanical stress limits and critical battery states can be identified. Additionally, a mathematical model describing the internal battery behavior using surface-mounted applied sensors shall be developed, which is to be validated with experimental results.
