Our research follows the ethical guidelines approved by the German Society for Linguistics (DGfS) in a laboratory approval process (DGfS 2023-04) with a validity period of 6 years. In the following you will find the relevant statements regarding data protection.
1. Voluntary Participation
Participation is voluntary. You can cancel or revoke your participation at any time without giving reasons and without any negative consequences. To withdraw, contact (1) the person conducting the study, (2) the principal investigator, or (3) the person responsible for data processing.
2. Storage of Personal Data
We only collect data that are relevant to the study question and as described in the information letter for participants. Your name will only appear on the consent form and, if applicable, on the acknowledgment of receipt, which will be kept separate from the other data, and stored exclusively in paper form in a secure and locked place. Additionally, we may keep a list with participants’ names and the codes assigned to them, which serves to ensure that you are not accidentally tested more than once and that data can, if requested after data processing has commenced, be removed from the data set. Your personal data will be deleted as soon as the reason for their collection and processing is met and as long as no other statutory provision requires additional data storage. You maintain all rights to your personal data in accordance with articles 15 to 21 of the EU Data Protection Regulation (EU-GDPR).
3. Data Analysis
All other data is stored anonymously using a code that does not contain any information about personal data (such as names, contact information, date of birth, etc.) and thus does not allow any conclusions to be drawn about the person in question. We analyze all data in anonymized form only. Data or analyses that allow inferences about individuals will not be passed on to third parties under any circumstances.
4. Storage, Access, and Deletion of Data
All non-anonymized data (consent forms, acknowledgments of receipt, and, if applicable, the list
assigning codes to participants’ names) will be kept in a locked place for 10 years. Anonymized data
will be stored on the file servers at the Technische Universität Braunschweig for up to 5 years. After the end of the project, the anonymized data sets will be transmitted for scientific documentation to the Open Science Framework or comparable archives, which guarantee proper and protected storage. You can, at any time, request that your data be deleted without giving reasons. To do so, contact the person responsible for data processing. It is, however, not possible to remove data from already anonymized datasets and from analyses that have already been carried out or published.
All persons handling the data are obliged to strictly comply with the European Data Protection Regulation (EU-DSGVO, Art. 6 para.2 lit.a) as well as the data protection laws of the Federal Government and the State of Lower Saxony. In the event of any breaches of applicable data protection laws, you may lodge a complaint in accordance with the EU Data Protection Regulation (EU-DSGVO) with the responsible data protection supervisory authority listed below.
