This year, the employee survey on working conditions and health took place from 3 June to 1 July 2024.
What is the employee survey?
Since 2016, the TU Braunschweig has conducted the employee survey on working conditions and health every four years using the Bielefeld questionnaire (only German), most recently in 2020. The TU Braunschweig uses this questionnaire as part of the risk assessment of mental stress (ArbSchG §5 para.6) to record relevant organisational framework conditions with regard to health and performance in the university context. The questionnaire can be used to gain insights into mental health and organisational conditions for specific status groups and across status groups.
The questionnaire is divided into two parts. In the first part of the survey, job satisfaction and organisational conditions such as time requirements, hybrid forms of work, management culture, culture of cooperation, digitalisation and inplacement are surveyed in various thematic blocks. The second part of the survey deals with questions on work performance, error rate, commitment and health.
The questionnaire is evaluated according to status groups for professors, researchers, scientific staff (with special evaluation of doctoral students), technical and administrative staff in decentralised areas and technical and administrative staff in centralised areas in order to identify needs for specific target groups and derive suitable measures.

What has been deduced from the previous surveys?
The employee survey was already conducted at TU Braunschweig in 2016 and 2020. Measures were derived from the previous surveys in order to respond to the most important needs for action from the survey.
Overarching and in line with the stress factor "time requirements", offers for the various status groups were included in the existing personnel development programmes as well as the continuing education offerings in the advisory network. These include workshops on mental health, dealing with conflicts, communication and personal time management. In the GradTUBS programme, a "wellbeing" topic block was developed with specific offers on the health of doctoral students.
