Restoration of the Matricul of the Collegii Carolini

With the restoration and digitization of the register book, a unique historical work for the Technical University and for the city of Braunschweig and thus a piece of cultural heritage of our Technical University has been secured for posterity.
All students who were enrolled at the Collegium Carolinum, the Polytechnic School and the Herzogliche Technische Hochschule Carolo-Wilhelmina between 1745 and 1900 were entered in this register book. It is therefore one of the oldest objects that provide an insight into the founding and subsequent 155 years of this university.

The importance of the register for research has been acknowledged in various publications, and the register also has great symbolic value for the university.
Due to its 275-year history, the register book was in need of considerable restoration, which could be carried out with the support of the Stiftung Braunschweigischer Kulturbesitz.
The restoration was commissioned to the Claus Schade workshop in Berlin, which carried out the work to a high standard.

In the course of the restoration work, the register book was also completely digitized and published on the TU Braunschweig's publication server.

The register book is stored in the university library in the so-called "Braunschweig Room", a separate climate-controlled and theft-proof room. In future, the physical work will only be used in justified individual cases, as the main use is now possible with the digital publication, which is freely available worldwide.
