Felix Klabunde hält SDG7 hoch

Today we would like to introduce Felix Klabunde (M. Sc.), who works at the Institute of High Voltage Technology and Energy Systems.

He is committed to Goal 7 and answered a few questions for us.

How does your work relate to this SDG?

I am researching the energy supply for regeneratively powered agricultural machinery in agriculture. This involves, for example, the question of whether the battery, which is already an integral part of cars, is also an option for agricultural machinery. Can the additional energy required be provided by the power grid and can renewable energies in agriculture provide at least part of the electricity required? All in all, it is about the challenges that a changeover of drive systems in agriculture entails. And in the end, it's also about profitability - after all, in the best-case scenario, a system should or must not only contribute to climate neutrality, but also be economically viable.

How did you become interested in this topic and where did your interest come from?

The topic came up again and again during my studies, of course. Courses provide a good overview of the different ways of generating energy and the associated advantages and disadvantages. I really got to grips with the topic with my Master's thesis and the subsequent Energy-4-Agri research project, in which we examined the future conversion of field management to an electrical supply from different perspectives and disciplines. Affordability was, of course, always explicitly mentioned by the farmers involved. And agriculture itself is already known for providing clean energy, e.g. through large photovoltaic systems on agricultural roofs or biogas plants. In the future, agri-photovoltaic systems will certainly also play a role, i.e. the combined use of land for agricultural production and energy generation.
What prompted you to get involved in this SDG?
Just the opportunity to actively contribute to the success of the energy transition is incentive enough to get involved with the topic.

Which 3 words do you associate with this SDG?

- Renewable energies
- Climate neutral
- Trust

Is there a link between your topic and other SDGs?

In principle, you can certainly make a connection to all SDGs. Goal 12 (sustainable consumption and production) naturally comes to mind, as energy should be used as efficiently and sustainably as possible, but also Goal 10 (reduced inequalities) and Goal 9 (industry, innovation and infrastructure).
