South America is a continent of extreme contrasts. In just one generation, many South American countries have made the transition from an agrarian state to an industrialised nation. Along with the rapid economic growth, the universities have also undergone further development. Today, they are an attractive destination for international students, because in addition to the great academic experience, you also get to enjoy the South American lifestyle.
A basic knowledge of Spanish or Portuguese is required to attend lectures and courses, and you will also need some knowledge of the local language for everyday life outside the university. However, you can often write your dissertations and theses in English. Language courses are available at the Language Centre, and many of our partner universities also offer preparatory courses before the start of the semester.
