Once again this year, the Summer School for Advanced Sustainable Aviation Technologies offered a special opportunity for national and international students to expand their knowledge and exchange ideas on sustainable aviation with experts from science and industry. This year's participants came from Germany, Iran, India and France and took full advantage of the opportunity from September 2nd to 13th, 2024.
Highly motivated and in a great mood - that's how we would describe the students at this year's Summer School. After a week full of online input in the form of almost 20 lectures with experts from TU Braunschweig, Leibniz Universität Hannover, DLR, Lufthansa and Airbus, the participants met in Braunschweig to get to know each other personally, to discuss in group work, but also to take part in the versatile accompanying programme.
In addition to guided tours at the SE²A institutes IFAS, ISM and IFL at the research airport campus, the programme also included a tour at Aerodata AG with a visit to the hangars. Another highlight was the guided tour of Hanover Airport and a discussion with CEO Prof Dr Martin Roll, who took extra time for the participants and patiently answered their many questions.
"A great opportunity to get an insight into various aspects of sustainability in aviation by experts, meet new people, discover the university and Braunschweig! I felt very welcome and enjoyed the well organized programme including interesting lectures as well as the group work and field trips. A recommendation for all future engineers."
Participants were able to find out more about Braunschweig and gain unusual views of the city on a guided tour. The ascent of the town hall tower offered the best opportunity for this. A barbecue together on Thursday completed the accompanying programme.
Well strengthened, things got serious on Friday and the students presented the results of their group work to Prof. Dr. Ulrich Römer, the expert consultants of the group work Marcel Seidler, Daniel Kessler and Patrick Brunow (all IFAS) and further scientists. For sure, the way towards sustainable aviation of the future has gained new ideas!
We would like to thank everyone involved for their support of the Summer School and look forward to 2025!
