This year, SE²A was represented at the Research Day of the Aeronautics Research Centre Niedersachsen (NFL) on 28th November 2024 with an award winner once again.
Dr. Alexander Barke completed his PhD in the Cluster of Excellence SE²A. He has now been awarded with the Hermann-Blenk-Prize for the best dissertation. His thesis, which focused on the ecological and socio-economic impact of innovative aircraft propulsion concepts and the energy sources required throughout their entire life cycle, was a remarkable achievement. Dr. Barke's research focuses on identifying suitable options for reducing emissions from air transport, while at the same time ensuring the cost-effectiveness of the solution by exploring suitable combinations of propulsion concepts and energy source variants. The research was conducted at the Institute of Automotive Management and Industrial Production (AIP).
Dr. Barke's research combines methods of life cycle sustainability assessments and operations research, enabling the identification of potentially suitable drive concepts at an early stage and providing recommendations for further research and development.
Dr. Barke is currently involved in the SE²A Cluster of Excellence project SUMAFly II - SUstainability Modelling and Analysis of Future Aircraft Systems II, which is concerned with the further development of methods for life cycle-oriented sustainability assessment and life cycle engineering for future aircraft concepts and configurations.
We congratulate all the winners for their outstanding works!
