Electrifying commercial aircrafts is challenging due to higher constraints in aviation on battery weight and energy-density demands than in ground electromobility. To discuss newest technical approaches and potential solutions, a joint workshop was organized by Prof. Krewer (INES) as member of the Cluster of Excellence SE²A on January 17th at TU Braunschweig together with a delegation from Korea organized by Prof. Hee-Tak Kim (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, KAIST). Prof. Friedrichs, speaker of SE²A introduced the battery research in the cluster of excellence, followed by interesting talks on flexible batteries and the challenges enfaced with Li-metal batteries and electrolytes in aviation. A visit in the Battery Lab Factory (BLB) headed by Prof. Kwade (Institute of Particle Technology, TU Braunschweig) completed the program. Future cooperation options on this topic were planned to collaborate more closely on this challenging task.
