Angela Ittel's academic career began with her studies at Florida International University (USA) and her doctorate at the University of California at Santa Cruz (USA). She then worked as a post-doctoral researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development (Berlin), the Friedrich Schiller Universität Jena. She obtained her Habilitation at Freie Universität Berlin in 2005. In 2008, she was appointed Professor of Educational Psychology at the TU Berlin. Her research areas include career orientation and development of interests in young adults, especially in STEM disciplines. She was a editor of international journals and books and continues to work internationally as a peer reviewer.
Angela Ittel was active as full-time Vice President of Technische Universität Berlin from 2014 to 2021 and was responsible for the Strategic Development, Young Professionals and Teacher Training. She has led and implemented extensive strategy processes successfully.
As a chairperson of the Berlin University Alliance board, she contributed significantly to its successful application in the Excellence Strategy of the Federal and State Governments in 2019. As a science manager with long-standing experience, she is also an acknowledged expert in the areas of interdisciplinary research, conditions of the academic qualification phase, internationalisation, equal opportunities and diversity.
Angela Ittel is an active member of numerous committees and professional societies. Since 1 October 2022, Angela Ittel has been leading the TU9 Alliance as a dual chairperson, since 2024 with University of Stuttgart's rector Peter Middendorf. On November 14, 2023, she was elected as a member of the Executive Board of the German Rectors' Conference with a focus on "International Affairs, Equality, Diversity."
